Lignoworks is one of five forestry-related NSERC Strategic Networks that make up FIBRE – Forest Innovation by Research and Education. In order to encourage networking across the networks and with the wider forestry community, FIBRE held its second annual meeting May 12 – 15 on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows are at the heart of FIBRE’s activities and the conference began with a student-organized session on job search skills.

For the second year, a Lignoworks graduate student is among five students from the FIBRE network who will participate in the student symposium that accompanies the annual Wallenberg Prize Symposium in Stockholm, Sweden in September. The Wallenberg Prize recognizes scientific and technical achievements that have had significant impact on the global forest industry and is the forest industry’s most prestigious award.

The students were selected by a competitive process. Each network nominated two students, who made oral presentations on their work at the FIBRE annual meeting in Vancouver. The final five were chosen by a panel of judges.
